Welcome to the Winter Session
Los Angeles Southwest College's 2017 Winter Session will be from January 3 to February 5.
This web page is meant to be a resource to help you get up to speed on available resources, pertinent information, and much more so you can find success in LASC's classrooms.
NOTES TO KNOW
You can apply for Winter Session classes at the Admissions and Records office in Student Services Building, Room 102.
Make sure to check your Los Angeles Community College District student email, and you can click this link to learn how.
Signs will be posted throughout campus to help you get around, but a map of LASC is available by clicking this link.

Classes Begin: January 3
Deadline to Drop Classes without a “W”: January 8
Deadline to Drop with Refund/No Fee Liability: Sunday, January 8
Census Date: January 9
Deadline to Add Classes: January 9
Drops show on transcript: January 9
Deadline to petition for Credit/No Credit: January 13
Deadline to Drop Classes with “W” Grade: January 28
Finals: February 2
HOW TO ADD A CLASS
Adding classes in the first week requires approval from your instructor who will provide an add slip that needs to be returned to Admissions and Records for processing. After the add slip is processed, your bill will need to be paid immediately at the Business Office or online via the Student Information System. Add permits should be turned in immediately.

Where to: Tough to find parking during the first week of the Winter Session, so give yourself plenty of time getting to LASC. Click this link for all of the areas where you can park on campus.
Permits: Winter Session Parking Permits will be available for purchase for $10 in the Business Office in Student Services Building, Room 103. Students will be required to show a valid photo ID in order to pick up a parking permit.
Tickets: There will be a one-week grace period before sheriff’s officials start ticketing cars that don’t have proper permits. Students parking in faculty and staff parking areas will be cited on the first day of the session. This includes the 30 minute lot off of Denker Avenue and the 30-minute parking stalls on the north side of the SoCTE building (the lot that parallels Imperial Highway).
Canvas will be the solo Learning Management System at the college.

HOW TO BECOME A STUDENT

There are several offices on campus that you may need to visit this session. To name just a few:
Admissions and Records: You can apply for admission, register for classes, obtain official transcripts, pick up degrees and certificates, and print out your Summer Session schedule in this office in Room 102 of the Student Services Building. Once you register for classes, fees are due and payable immediately at the Business Office or online via the Student Information System.
Business Office: Visit this office in Room 103 in the Student Services Building to pay fees, clear holds, pick up parking permits, obtain schedules and fee receipts as well as pay for official transcripts and enrollment verifications. To avoid long lines, pay your fees online.
Financial Aid Office: Stop by Room 104 in the Student Services Building for financial aid information, submit verification documents, and check on your financial aid appeal. If you have not done so already, file your financial aid application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember to bring your photo identification when visiting the Financial Aid Office. Counseling Office: Visit this office in Room 227 of the Student Services Building to learn more about requirements to earn associate degrees, certificates and to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The office also recommends appropriate referrals when needed, works with students to develop educational plans and offers an array of workshops. The office’s hours can found by clicking this link.
Student Success and Support Program: Visit the SSSP office in Room 204 of the Student Services Building to attend orientation, take an assessment test and clear prerequisites. Also, you can obtain your school identification card here. Students must be officially enrolled in a class before they are able to receive identification, so make sure to bring a copy of your schedule. Photo identification is free. Bookstore: Buy books at the college's Bookstore on the ground floor of the Student Services Building. The Bookstore will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, visit www.lascbookstore.com.
There are a wealth of people on campus who are willing and ready to help you out. To name a few:
ASO: The Associated Students Organization is the governing body representing students. ASO also sponsors social activities and events. Visit the organization’s office in Room 118 of the Student Services Building for more information.
Counseling Office: Students should visit the office at Room 227 in the Student Services Building to learn more about appropriate referrals, develop educational plans and take part in academic workshops. The office’s hours can found by clicking this link.
Health Center: A variety of services are available at the center located in Room 115 in the Student Services Building, including basic first aid, physical exams, health assessment, counseling, referrals and much more. A registered nurse is available during office hours. No appointment is needed.
Library: The library will be open 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Library is located on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor of the Cox Building.
Veterans Resource Center: If you are a veteran, stop by the Veterans Resource Center in Room 207 of the Student Services Building to check out its services.
