Is there a charge to apply?
There is no charge to apply, except for international (F-1 Visa) students, who pay $35.
What are the admissions requirements?
Southwest College has an open admissions policy. A high school diploma is not required.
Are transcripts from other colleges or high schools required?
No. The only time you would want to have copies of transcripts from other schools sent to Southwest is when you want Southwest to use a course from another school for graduation, certification, or course prerequisite requirements.
What degrees does Southwest offer?
Southwest offers two-year Associate degrees in the arts and sciences, Occupational Certificate programs and general education transfer programs.
What is the process to apply and register at Southwest?
Applications are accepted by mail and in person.
If you're planning to take Math or English courses, or if you wish to pursue a degree, you will be given an appointment to take English and math assessments and participate in an orientation to the college. You will then meet with a counselor to develop an individualized enrollment plan. Finally, you will register for classes either in person, online, or by telephone (STEP).
Exemptions from English and Math assessment are available to students taking courses for personal interest.
What is the cost?
California residents pay only $20 per unit. Non-resident fees for students from out of state are an additional $154 per unit. International students pay an additional $164 per unit.
Where do I get admission forms?
