Los Angeles - Opening South Coast Conference - South play at home, the LASC women's basketball used a late rally to get within five points of the 7-7 Cerritos Falcons, but would eventually settle for a 66-46 setback at the newly constructed Thomas G. Lakin Physical Education Center.
The Cougars fall to 2-9 overall while the Falcons improve to 8-7 on the season and 1-0 in SCC-South play. Shymayne Callahan led LASC with 16 points while Christyana Scorza and Samone Kelly added 10 points each.
Trailing by 13 at half, the Cougars began chipping away getting within nine early in the second half. Staying within nine until the fourteen minute mark, the Cougars run ran out of gas, however, as Cerritos was able to pull away down the stretch, hitting 76% from the field for the game.
The Cougars only turned the ball over 10 times to the Falcon's 26 giveaways with 15 of the Falcon's turnovers from Cougars steals.
The Cougars remain at home to conclude this opening week of SCC-South play, facing Pasadena on Friday, Jan. 10. Tip off at Thomas G. Lakin Physical Education Center is scheduled for 7pm.
