The Los Angeles Southwest College TRiO Scholars program (formerly known as the Center for Retention and Transfer) assists students transferring to a four-year college or university. Representatives from the University of California, the California State University system and private colleges, such as the University of Southern California, provide regular visits to campus and give up-to-date information to students.

Tours to many colleges and universities are arranged, and students may sign up for these tours at the TRIO Scholars Office, located in Student Services Building 229. (All students planning to transfer are encouraged to use the Transfer Center for information and assistance.) College catalogs are available for students use. Academic advisement, tutoring, and university application assistance are available. Evening counseling is available by appointment.

The U.S. Department of Education funds these programs to help students overcome, class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.
