Program Overview:
Use Your Passion for Music to Change the World
Teach young students how to play the piano. Record your newest song at a local studio to capture your talents and become a sought-after session musician. Set up, test, and adjust sound equipment for concerts and other live performances at local venues. Start your own business as a DJ for weddings and special events. With a career in music, you can be the performer or work behind the scenes to support them.
Musicians work in areas of production, education, performance, and business. Learning new technology like enhanced audio equipment keeps your skills fresh as a sound technician or mastering new effects for your DJ service. You’ll develop skills to work independently and collaboratively both in and out of the spotlight. It’s a competitive industry that requires determination, passion, patience, and perseverance.

What You’ll Learn at LASC in Music
You can get an Associate in Arts (AA) degree through LASC’s Music program where you will enhance your musical talents, dive into the fundamentals of music, and prepare for a career in this creative field:
- Improve your skills in reading and writing music through studying pitch, notation, rhythm, scales, intervals, chords, and the keyboard while increasing your knowledge of musical works to learn to comment on musical characteristics, genre, form, social significance, historical context and production methods.
- Increase your knowledge in American, World, and Western Classical music by learning oral and written traditions of basic music.
- Embrace new technology and learn desktop production basics, how to manipulate digital audio, drum programming, computer-assisted live performance, mixing, mastering, and distribution through digital audio production and performance work using Ableton Live software.
