TRiO Programs

Support for First-Generation College Students!

LASC is home to three TRIO programs: The Pre-College Educational Talent Search (ETS) program and two Student Support Services (SSS) programs: the TRIO Scholars Program and the TRIO STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Scholars Program. TRIO programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education and are designed to assist students overcome, class, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.

Here are the TRIO programs we offer:

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services programs are designed to offer an extra layer of academic support to and provide services for first-generation college students, those who qualify for financial aid, and/or students who have a disability or are disabled to help them succeed in college and reach their educational goals. In addition, the SSS programs can assist participants becoming familiar with college resources and departments, assist in thriving in college courses, and learning how to navigate the transfer process to a four-year college or university.

If you are the first person in your family to attend college, are receiving financial aid and/or are a part of LASC’s DSPS (DisAbled Students Programs & Services), then you may qualify for one of the SSS TRIO programs which can support you in achieving your academic objectives.

TRIO Scholars

The TRIO Scholars program offers additional support services to all majors who are first-generation college students, those who qualify for financial aid, and/or students who have a disability or are disabled in completing an associate’s degree and/or wanting to transfer to a four-year college or university of their choice.

TRIO STEM

The TRIO STEM program assists all first-generation college students, those who qualify for financial aid, and/or students who have a disability or are disabled who are interested in completing an associate’s degree and/or transfer to a four-year college or university in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) major or affiliated STEM major (RN, Business, Psychology, etc.).

Educational Talent Search (ETS)

Educational Talent Search is a pre-college program designed to assist students in grades 6-12. These students are planning to be the first person in their family to go to college, or could qualify for college financial aid, and plan to go to college. If you fall under this criterion, you may qualify for Educational Talent Search. ETS also accepts those individuals who want to reenter high school to get their GED. ETS offers the support, inside tips, and resources you need to get ahead in high school, transfer to a college or university, and reaching your educational and career goals!
