Academic Honors at LASC

In recognition of your hard work, persistence, and academic excellence, LASC is proud to offer the following academic honors:
Dean's Honor List
Every Fall and Spring semester, an Honor List is composed of students who:
Have satisfactorily completed 12 or more units* in a given semester with a 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)
OR
Have satisfactorily completed 6 to 11.5 units* in a semester with a 3.5 GPA and have completed a cumulative total of 12 or more units* with a 3.5 GPA in all work attempted
The units mentioned above must be transferrable units and must not be units earned for repeated classes.
In recognition of this scholastic accomplishment, each student is honored and awarded a certificate. The certificate issued for the first and second semester is titled the DEAN’S HONOR LIST.
President’s Honor Award
Students who meet the requirements for the Dean’s Honor List three (3) semesters in a row qualifying for the President’s Honor Award.
Graduation Honors
Graduates will be recognized at LASC’s annual commencement ceremony in June for outstanding scholastic achievement. Outstanding academic achievement is given Latin phrases for the overall GPA achieved in all college work completed:
- Summa Cum Laude (with highest praise) GPA: 3.9 – or higher
- Magna Cum Laude (with great praise) GPA: 3.7 – 3.89
- Cum Laude (with praise) GPA: 3.5 – 3.69
Valedictorian & Salutatorian
The Valedictorian and the Salutatorian are the students with the two highest overall GPAs in the actual graduating class. The GPA is based on the graduate status given at the end of the Fall semester. The Valedictorian is the graduate with the highest GPA. The Salutatorian is the graduate with the second-highest GPA.
