LASC Basic Needs

LASC Basic Needs program provides assistance to students who face challenges with obtaining sufficient, essential, and fundamental resources. This may include needs related to food, housing, clothing, mental health, transportation, etc. as we are aware that a student’s quality of life at home and college are often directly related to these types of services. Therefore with a focus on intervention, emergency relief, and retention, various events and activities are comprised and provided that included but not limited to the following:

  • Food distribution events where both fresh food and canned goods are distributed
  • Food Pantry where students received both snacks and for meal preparation items
  • Participation in monthly week-end recruitment and retention events where food items and grocery/gas gift cards are distributed
  • Free Transportation/Metro passes
  • Emergency housing voucher assistance – Gateways Housing
  • Extended and supplemental housing assistance
  • Mental health and psychological  counseling assistance

LASC Cougar Cupboard

LASC’s Cougar Cupboard food pantry provides support to students who face hunger issues, as the link between being hungry and successfully achieving one’s educational goals is addressed. It is not uncommon that students who are homeless and/or otherwise disenfranchised arrive to campus with food insecurities. Items that can be stored and easily prepared are a part of the food that the pantry offers as it meets the immediate hunger needs of students. The Cougar Food Pantry also makes a difference by bringing people together and extending hope to those in need.
